Welcome to Catholics Come Home!

Welcome to Catholics Come Home. We're here to help you begin or continue your faith journey, so you can find true peace, happiness and purpose in life.

THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD
We are people of hope

Today's Gospel story of the Baptism of the Lord seems so fitting now that we have entered the second half of the Catholics Come Home evangelization initiative. During the time of John the Baptist people were waiting in great anticipation for the coming of the Christ. They continued to live in hope that God would save them just as he had promised Abraham and all the generations that came afterward. It was their faith in God and their hope for the future that kept them watchful for the messiah.

Today we have the joy of knowing Jesus, the Christ through our baptism and in our practice of faith. No longer do we wait for salvation for we have tasted it in the Eucharist and felt it in the water and oil of our Baptism. Jesus called us to go out and spread the Good News. That is the reason for the Catholics Come Home evangelization effort. Today we have an opportunity to talk to others about our faith by simply asking, "Have you seen those commercials on TV?" Just by getting people to talk about Catholics Come Home you may be planting the seeds of faith that could blossom in the future.

The first line of today's Gospel may ring true in your hearts today, "The people were filled with expectation." At the halfway point in the Catholics Come Home advertisement schedule some parishes have seen and heard of those who have been moved to return to the Church and others wait expectantly. It is helpful to remember that God is present in all things and we may never really know how our efforts and this invitation back to the Church has touched the lives of those who have drifted. It is through prayer that we can stay grounded in our faith and it is prayer that nurtures the seeds of hope within us.

December 19, 2009

Dear Father Fialkowski,

On this Christmas season, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support. It is thanks to your support and the generosity of your parishioners that we continue to receive Jesus and share him with others. I hope and pray that you all will be blessed abundantly by the child Jesus.

Once again, thank you and Merry Christmas.

Communion Service Reflection for January 2, 2010 prepared by Tom Dooley

Well, here we are, entering the second day of a New Year and a New Decade.

For many of us, we are also experiencing the opportunity - and the challenge - of new beginnings. Or, should we say, the elimination of old procedures and practices - all of which we blanket under the category of New Year's Resolutions.

Many dictionaries define a "resolution" as a "firmness of commitment and determination". In the vernacular of New Year's celebrations this usually means vowing to stop doing bad things, overcoming negative temptations, terminating bad habits, and/or halting actions that damage the status or reputations of others.

Resolves like: Losing weight - stopping smoking - removing bad language from our vocabulary - ending any "speaking ill of others" - avoiding the use of "destructive" criticism to belittle the efforts and/or achievements of fellow men and women.

Now certainly there is nothing wrong about any such resolutions, only in the ever recurring deviation from them. Now, one might well conjecture that our frequent "breaking" of such resolutions is largely attributable to the fact that they are all based on the elimination of a negative or the termination of something that is mighty tempting.

Fortunately, there is an approach that can go a long way toward removing the perception of negativism and/or the extreme difficulty of keeping New Year's resolutions - namely - replacing them with positive resolutions - things like participating more actively in the spiritual life of the church, introducing others to the Catholic Faith, communicating with Almighty God and His beloved Son through daily prayer - presenting our needs to Him and thanking Him for all the blessings and graces He has bestowed on us, and of course, remembering to always "do unto others as we should have them do unto us."

The odds are mighty good that such positive resolutions as these will still be in place through the totality of most - if not all - of the 365 days of the year and will be excellent ways of welcoming every new day of the New Year.

TEEN MISSION TRIP
It appears that the Summer Mission Trip registration is the hottest ticket in town. In just two weeks, all 35 of our teen spaces have filled up. And more seem to be coming. The problem is Catholic Heart Work Camp is at the moment at capacity for Betsy Lane, KY. But there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Here's the deal: We asked CHWC to give us 10 spots on the waitlist. Usually the wait list does not help that much but we are the first parish on the list. Also since Betsy Lane is a new location, once CHWC goes out to examine the facility (in February), they may decide that the camp can accommodate more campers. OLW can add a teen on the waitlist once the registration form and deposit are submitted. We will hold the check and cash it if only after the  teen has been confirmed on the official roster. So there's hope…

The first MT gathering is next week, Sun, Jan 17th from 7:30-9 pm (double duty for CORE). Wait list teens are asked to attend as well. Great introduction night.

KAIROS: IT'S COMING
High School Juniors and Seniors, isn't it time to get away from all the beautiful chaos of time. Time to get a jump start and examine what's important to you. Time to laugh your butt off. If the answer is yes, then Kairos is right for you. K9 will take place over President's Weekend, February 12-15th. Both a Registration brochure and Permission form are online. Please register this week for this amazing experience. It may be one of the best weekends of your high school life.

PM/CORE
Double duty for CORE. Tonight (Sun), Jan. 10th, CORE gathers at 5:30 pm, then we go right into Peer Ministry at 7 pm. It seems like forever since we've been together. Let's make it a special night.

Additional January Gatherings: PM--Outreach, Jan 24th, Social, Jan 31st, CORE--Jan 17th from 5-7 pm.

JR. HIGH FEST & RETREAT:

Registration Deadline Tomorrow!

Do Not Miss Out on this AMAZING event. Once again, OLW will be diving right in on the Overnight Jr. High Fest & Retreat this weekend, Fri./Sat. January 15th-16th. This event which includes 250 middle schoolers combines
