FOOD DRIVE FOR ST. MARK'S PARISH

As we continue our support for the families of St. Mark's, we will sponsor the next food drive on Sunday, March 14th. Items may be dropped off at the OLW garage between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. St. Mark's greatest need continues to be that of nonperishable food items along with baby formula, food and diapers.

Thanks go out to the Cabot CFM group and Roundtree family for accepting donations last month. The following individuals deserve a huge thank you for coming forward to help with the delivery process: Julie and Erin Barry, Tom and Bill Cleary, Joe, Michael and Mark Iammarino. Thank you for all of your time and effort!

Please contact John Toomey if interested in volunteering to accept donations and if you are available to deliver donations please call Bill Cleary

Rev. Elmer Romero and the families of St. Mark are truly grateful and would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the parishioners of Our Lady of the Wayside for their continued support!

Sincerely,
The St. Mark's Committee of
the Care & Outreach Commission

BUSINESS MANAGER TO RETIRE
(A Note from Ken Adamick)

After fifteen years as the business manager at Our Lady of the Wayside, I have decided to retire. I have enjoyed my years at Wayside and treasure the many wonderful people I have met. I plan to stay here for a short period of time (two or three months?) to complete some projects currently in process. In the meantime, a search team is being formed to find my replacement. I have offered to spend some time with the new business manager during the transition. There will be more information about the status of the "search" in future bulletins.

I want to thank everyone for their support over the years. May God bless all of you.

SPRING AHEAD!
Daylight Savings Time Ends next Sunday, March 14th. Don't forget to spring ahead next Sunday.

The Treasures of Our Catholic Faith

Presented by
Father Bob Lombardo, CFR

Director of
The Mission of
Our Lady of the Angels

Father Bob Lombardo, CFR

Father has given various retreats to Parishes and Youth groups for over 20 years. For the past five years he has been assigned to the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels on Chicago's West Side. Part of the work of the Mission is feeding the hungry. Many parishioners have visited the Mission and have assisted with the large food distributions. If you have not been able to visit/assist at the Mission you can make a visit on the web at MissionOLA.com. Over the days of the Lenten Parish Mission, we will have the opportunity to share the treasures of our Catholic Faith. It is the beautiful faith we share that is responsible for the great relationship between Our Lady of the Wayside and Our Lady of the Angels. Let's all come together at the Parish Mission to allow Almighty God to strengthen all of our relationships, especially the one between us and God.

Monday, March 15th - 7:30 p.m.
Evening One-"The Eucharist and Priesthood"- At the Last Supper Jesus gave us a special gift-Himself. This night we will concentrate on the Real Presence of Jesus.

Tuesday, March 16th - 7:30 p.m.
Evening Two-"Healing and Reconciliation" - How do we find the inner peace and joy Jesus promised to us?

Wednesday, March 17th - 7:30 p.m.
Evening Three-"Go Out and Make Disciples"- How can we go forth and speak positively about the treasures of our Faith?

Please join us for another successful Mission for a wonderful opportunity for formation and spiritual growth. Each evening the Mission will begin at 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow on Monday and Wednesday evening.

On Sunday, November 1st, 2009 at the 9:45 Sunday Liturgy we celebrated The Rite of Acceptance of the class of 2010. We asked the whole church to accept them for having completed the first part of their journey and to support them with our prayers and love.

On Sunday, February 14th at the 9:45 Sunday Liturgy we celebrated the Rite of Sending. Again we asked the community to support them as we sent them to Holy Name Cathedral for the Rite of Election. Our Vicar Bishop Rassas presided and accepted them into the Body of the Elect.

On Saturday evening March 6th at the 5:00 p.m. Liturgy we will celebrate the first of the three Scrutinies. The second will be at the 8:15 Sunday Liturgy March 14th and the third at the 11:30 Sunday Liturgy March 21st. At the Mass where a Scrutiny is celebrated the readings are always from cycle A even though we are in cycle C for readings.

A Scrutiny is a rite of self searching and repentance and above all has a spiritual purpose. They are meant to uncover and heal all that is weak, defective or sinful in the hearts of the Elect, and to bring out and strengthen all that is upright strong and good. The Scrutinies are celebrated to deliver the Elect from the power of sin and satan, to protect against temptation and give strength in Christ.

Each Scrutiny will be celebrated right after the Homily and consists as a prayer, intercessions and an exorcism.

The first exorcism will be done to protect the Elect from the power of evil. The gospel is the woman at the well.

The second Scrutiny will be to free the Elect from all that blinds them from seeing the true Light, Jesus Christ. The gospel the man born blind.

The third Scrutiny will free the Elect from the tranny of death and the power of evil which is the source of sin and death so that the Elect will be able to receive the Sacraments of Initiation during the Easter Vigil Mass.

Please pray for the Elect during this final part of their journey to revertion into the Catholic Church.

HOLY THURSDAY/GOOD FRIDAY RETREAT:

Save the Date!

Without a doubt, one of the highlights of the whole year. So once again, the OLW Peer Ministers will be offering the Holy Thursday/Good Friday Overnight Retreat beginning at 6:30 p.m. on (Holy) Thursday, April 1st and ending at 3 p.m. on (Good) Friday, April 2nd. Please come dressed nicely for the Holy Thursday Liturgy (one of the "biggest" of the year).

Info is on the website: www.olwparish.org. All are welcome. Non-Peer Ministers should have the online permission form. We will do many different activities including spending time outside, so keep that in mind in terms of clothing.

Just as an FYI, this is an overnighter, not all-nighter. You will get plenty of sleep. This will undoubtedly be both a fun and powerful time. Take a chance--check it out.

OLW 4TH DAY
Sadly we have to postpone the OLW 4th  Day which was originally planned for this Monday, March 8th. We'll Facebook everyone with the new date. But don't forget, the whole community Kairos 4th Day is Thursday, March 18th at 7 p.m. here at Wayside. Should be fabulous.

PEER MINISTRY: TIME REMINDER!
Bowling was great last week. Thanks Claire Brady and Dan Fino for planning the evening. We got some great pics! (Hernan, you were a big hit!)

Next Peer Ministry is tonight (Sun) from 5-7 pm (adjusted time--it's on the calendar).

The gathering on the 21st will go from an Outreach to a regular (but special at the same time) Peer Ministry meeting.

CORE
So no CORE this weekend (sad). Yet for all those in town on March 28th, we'll get together before the Social. Let's make it from 5-7 p.m. (we'll grab dinner within this time). We have a lot to plan with the Holy Thursday/Good Friday Retreat the following week.

MISSION OF OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels Mobile Food Pantry this weekiend. Please know that your efforts helped feed and offer clothing for hundreds of people each time. What a beautiful impact a few hours can make.
