ADOPT A FAMILY
And/Or Contribute to a Religious Education Scholarship Fund for Families in
the Religious Education Program

The Religious Education Program has families in need of financial assistance to help pay their tuition and fees. Some could only afford a portion of their total amount. Some families have temporary needs, while other families, due to circumstance, have an on-going need of monetary assistance. Sacrament fees are included in some of the amounts listed below. Religious Education Program amounts are as follows:

Tuition per Student $210.00
First Eucharist $75.00
First Reconciliation $50.00
Confirmation $115.00

If you are able to assist in some small way with the religious education of the children in our parish, please send all donations to Sister Joan or Sister Adrienne.

Below are the amounts needed for individual families at the present time.

HELP WANTED
Religious Education Secretary Needed

Our Religious Education Secretary, Jan Hopkins, is retiring at the end of December. Jan has worked at Our Lady of the Wayside Parish for 21 years. She will be greatly missed by Sister Adrienne and Sister Joan, and by all the R.E.P. Faculty, Students, School Faculty and School students.

We are presently looking for a Religious Education Secretary. The following are the requirements:

  1. Complete Protecting God's Children.
  2. Very knowledgeable about the computer.
  3. Part-time paid position - 3 days a week - no benefits.
  4. Work during the summer.
  5. Assist on Saturdays for first-time Sacraments and Retreats.
  6. Needs to work on Tuesday until 5:45.

Please call Sister Adrienne or Sister Joan to apply for this

position 847-398-5011.

"theology" of the penny, but the physical act of holding up a penny and declaring my trust in God lifts burdens from me. When I take back my problems-as we all sometimes do-I find another penny and recommit my trust in God. During this recession, how about a penny and a prayer as we come to celebrate Thanksgiving.

CYO BASKETBALL
CYO is open to all high school age teens. So far, seems like we are on the road to have a freshman, sophomore, and potentially two junior teams. More detailed information plus forms are online at www.olwparish.org, under the Youth Ministry section. Deadline for registration is Monday. Nov. 16th. Season begins the weekend of Dec. 5th-6th. For now, juniors practice on Monday and fresh/soph teams on Wednesday. All practices are 9-10:30 pm in the Middle School Gym.

NCYC
We may still have a spot or two open for the National Catholic Youth Conference in two weeks. If interested in joining over 20,000 teens from across the country in Kansas City, MO, please check out the info online and contact Kevin in the YM Office asap.

PEER MINISTRY
Peer Ministry tonight (Sun), from 7-9 pm in the Youth Room. PM Social is Sunday, Nov. 22nd and PM Outreach (open to all high school age teens) on Sunday, Nov. 29th.

CORE
Thanks for gathering on your day off. No meeting on the 15th (as originally scheduled). Please continue to reflect on what you would do if Jesus appeared in front of you. Keep up your conversation with Him. He's always there.

KAIROS
Chances are this Kairos (K9), which take place over President's Weekend, Feb. 12th-15th, will be a hot commodity. We already have registrations, so please sign-up as soon as you can. Kairos is a retreat (yet so much more) open to high school age juniors and seniors. Simply put, it's a time to get away from the craziness of life and focus on your relationship with yourself, God, and others. For some it is life changing, for all it is certainly life impacting. Registration brochure and permission form is online. Talk to an alumni to get a teen perspective.

TEENS: MARK YOUR CALENDARS
All high school age teens are invited to this month's Outreach entitled "The Feast". In addition to games, icebreakers, and small groups we will focus on coming to understand the Eucharist from a teen's perspective. And to top it all off, there will be White Castle Sliders for everyone.

CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS

Classroom Happenings From The Second Grade

Our Wayside Second Graders are very excited as we prepare for our second sacrament. On November 14th we will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We have spent several weeks talking, asking questions, and learning about God's love and forgiveness for us. We are studying the Ten Commandments and realizing that we need to follow God's rules in our everyday lives, always thinking about W.W.J.D. (What Would Jesus Do). Practicing kindness is evident in the ways we act toward each other in our classrooms, on the playground and around our school. Coincidentally the stories we are reading in our Reading classes this month address the theme of "Helping Out" as well. How to help others, develop friendships and be good Samaritans seem to be an ongoing message throughout.

We have also been working on a service project called "Project Linus". Each student is designing a fabric square which will be sewn into quilts that will be given to children in hospitals. Our finished quilts will be on display at our Open House in February. Another activity we will be doing around Veteran's Day is writing letters to servicemen and women. As we know, words of inspiration from children are heartwarming. We hope to send some of our love and caring thoughts to uplift the spirits of those who need our support.

FANNIE MAY IS BACK

Fannie May is BACK again! OLW School will be conducting a Fannie May candy sale for the Christmas Holidays! Proceeds from this candy sale will be used by OLW School to offset the cost of improving our school programs.

Fannie May candies might be a familiar item on your Holiday gift-giving list and if you order from this sale, you not only save 5% on the total cost of each item, but you also save over 10% in sales tax. AND the best part of all is the fact that you don't have to drive to the store and wait in line! It's simple to order and IT IS DELIVERED TO YOUR HOME! No need to come and pick it up at school! Just drop off the order form, with payment (checks made payable to Our Lady of the Wayside School), in the school or parish office before Wednesday, November 11th. Your order will be delivered to your home the week of November 30th. Just in time for the holidays and entertaining.

If you would like to see a brochure with pictures, they are located at the entrances to church. Thank you for helping your parish school.

GCP CUSTOMERS

No orders will be placed on Monday, November 23rd due to the fact that there is no school the rest of the week.

Are you tired and worn out from trying to think of what to get people on your Christmas list? Well, here's a suggestion for you. THINK GCP'S!!! Take a look at all the different gift certificates you can purchase through our program at www.mannagroup.net. Department stores, Starbucks, Blockbuster (music and video), Borders (books and music), hair salons, restaurants, gasoline cards and many more.

The real beauty of it is that you can shop for all of these from the comfort of your home. just fill out the order envelope available in the school office, drop it off at the school office by noon on Mondays and pick them up on Tuesdays at the end of the school day.
