Weekend Presider

He went down with them and came to NAZARETH,
and was OBEDIENT to them; and his mother kept all these things in her HEART.

And JESUS advanced in WISDOM and age and
favor before God and man.

Luke 2:51-52

You will notice that the picture on the front of the bulletin has been changed for this weekend. It features the banner over the front doors of the church. It was created for the Catholics Come Home initiative. But it is also there to welcome home our college people who have been away at school. It also reminds us this is our home. We are all members of one family. We are the mystical Body of Christ and we want all visitors to feel welcome. It is there to help us center on why we gather each weekend and to welcome the opportunity to celebrate together. The unconditional love of God our Father made present to us in the body and blood of his Son Jesus Christ.

Next weeks bulletin will again be a full view of the church with the banner see below. After Easter we will remove the banner and change the picture on the bulletin cover to coincide with the actual front of the church. From time to time during the year we will again use the banner and change the picture on the bulletin accordingly.

RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

As some of you may know, Elizabeth Bellock will be retiring from the Business Office after nine years of dedicated service. Although we will certainly miss her, we wish her the best of everything in her retirement. While we will be reorganizing some responsibilities to attempt to reduce personnel costs, we will be hiring someone to help maintain an appropriate level of service to the parish. An ad for Elizabeth's replacement follows this announcement. It is also being sent to other parishes in the area.

PART-TIME
ASSISTANT BUSINESS MANAGER

Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church and School (OLW), located in Arlington Heights Illinois, is recruiting to replace our retiring Assistant Business Manager.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree, above average computer and communication skills and a strong working knowledge of QuickBooks. Responsibilities will include "trouble shooting" computer issues, overseeing maintenance and repair projects, scheduling cleaning and preparatory work for parish activities, accounting support and special projects. Numerous miscellaneous responsibilities are also included in this 20-30 hour per week position.

Qualified candidates should e-mail their resumes to Businessmanager@olwparish.org. No phone calls, please.  Also, please understand that it will only be feasible to respond to candidates who are invited to interview for this position.

PROMISES FOR A NEW YEAR 2010

Keep these promises for a rewarding 2010!
It's that time of year again to make your New Year's resolutions.

Start 2010 by promising yourself:

  1. To be strong, that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

  1. To take time every day to speak to the Lord.

  1. To talk happiness to very person you meet. Try to see things from the other person's point of view.

4. To make all your family and friends feel that  there is something in them that is valuable. Don't  ever look down on anyone, no matter how hum ble their surroundings or circumstances.

  1. Engage in sports or some form of exercise to keep your body fit. Make a new year's appointment with your doctor for that yearly exam!!!

  1. To be just as enthusiastic about success of others as you are about your own.

  1. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

8. Wear a cheerful expression at all times and give  every living creature you meet a smile. Have a  good sense of humor - the first prerequisite to  learn is to laugh at yourself.

9. Whatever you do, do it well; be more concerned  about quality than quantity.

10. To be to large for worry, too noble for anger, too  strong for fear and too happy to permit the pres ence of trouble.

11. Again to make a special time each day to speak  to the Lord - and never hesitate to speak with  Him when you need to.

These are suggestions. Use them and your own, and enjoy 2010. Make it a rewarding year for all those people you come in contact with. A healthy and happy New Year to all our parishioners!

WINTER DOWNTOWN OUTING:

Tomorrow!!!

Yes, so it's finally here. We will be meeting at the Arlington Heights train station at 12:15 pm, hop on the train, do our thing (maybe ice skating, holiday market, the windows, and grab dinner along the way), and be back by around 7:30 pm. These details are still being finalized (see section above). Updated information can be found on the website. All teens are welcome, non-Peer Ministers will need a permission form (also on website).

TEEN MISSION TRIP
Because of CHWC cam date conflicts, a final decision for the OLW Teen Mission Trip is still to be confirmed. We will be participating in either the Betsy Lane, KY camp July 11th-17th or the Pittsburgh, PA camp July 18th-24th. A final determination will be made early January and registration will open then. Please know that spots may fill up almost immediately.

KAIROS
Kairos 9 will take place over President's day weekend, Feb. 12th-15th. Registrations have been coming in. Please sign-up as soon as possible. Both the Registration brochure and Permission forms are online. Kairos is open to any high school junior or senior. A great opportunity to get away from the craziness of life and focus on one's self, others, and God. Could be one of the most powerful weekends in your life. Amazing fun as well.

CAMP WOW HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELORS
Applications are finally available for Camp WOW high school counselors.  Please take some time to consider if this is right for you. We are looking for freshman-seniors who believe they have leadership skills along with a strong Christian witness. If this is you, apps can be downloaded off the parish website. Deadline is January 7th. Spots will be tight this year. Camp WOW is truly a fantastic combination of fun, faith, and friendship.
