The work being funded by
Our Lady of the Wayside’s 2008 Capital Campaign, Preserving Our Foundation / Securing Our Future is underway!
CREWS FROM COM ED were working on the Park Street side of Wayside last week preparing for a new transformer. This work is not related to the OLW Capital Campaign but there was a remote connection: the faulty generator caused a black out the night of the Capital Campaign Open House on April 13. In addition, some of the power problems affecting the Mackin Center and Middle School can be attributed to the transformer.
THE CEILING IN THE Mackin Center is missing large segments of tile as workmen prepare for the installation of the new HVAC system. One of the first projects of the “Preserving Our Foundation / Securing Our Future “ campaign, the aging HVAC system (40 years old) caused many uncomfortable (and cold) days for students and teachers alike. The project should be completed by the end of July.
OLW BUSINESS MANAGER Ken Adamick, left, discusses work schedules with a representative of the contractor on the first major project since funds were generated by the “Preserving Our Foundation / Securing Our Future” campaign. Other projects will be launched as funds are available.
THE FIRST TASK: Workmen prepare the old HVAC system for removal from the Mackin Center Roof.
DAVE LENNOX (that's actually his name) watches over the new HVAC equipment as it awaits the lift to the roof.
OFF WE GO ... probably to the scrap heap or recycled metal heap. HVAC system was 40+ years old.
OUT WITH OLD, in with the new. Old HVAC equipment awaits removal while one of the new systems awaits installation.
UP AND AWAY: The first of the new HVAC units is hoisted to the Mackin Center roof. Two others also were lifted and installed.
LITTLE TO THE RIGHT .... and the crane operator gently lowers the new system while installers wait to tighten the bolts.
