Parish Councils

There are two Councils, four Commissions and the Stewardship committee that are in leadership roles in the parish.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

The Pastoral Council membership is by invitation or approval of the pastor. The council is made up of representatives of all Commissions - Care and Outreach, Worship and Spiritual Life, Parish Life and Education - as well as well as a number of “at-large” members. The purpose of the Council is to encourage and support existing ministries, be open to the needs, ideas and hopes of the faith community and inform, advise and make recommendations to the Pastor regarding such.

PARISH MANAGEMENT COUNCIL

The Parish Management Council is the board that acts in an advisory capacity to the Pastor with respect to the physical and financial concerns of the Parish. Specifically the council assists in overseeing the Parish resources and facilities, reviewing the subsidies and financial commitment to the various ministries and assisting in the development of a plan for increasing financial resources when necessary. The Pastor, the Business Manager and nine parishioners serve on the council. The parishioners serve three year terms, staggered so that each year one third of the council is replaced. New council members are appointed by the Pastor, based on suggestions from council members or interested parishioners. The Management Council meets on a monthly basis. The Chairperson, along with the Pastor and Business Manager, sets the agenda and conducts the meetings.

Glen Stewart

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

The Stewardship Committee membership is by invitation or approval of the pastor. The committee is responsible for bringing the message of stewardship to the parish.

In the first book of Genesis, God gave mankind dominion over all the earth. With that dominion came responsibility. Stewardship is an awareness of that responsibility that encompasses the whole of life. We are therefore called to be:

  • Stewards of Creation – The world we live in
  • Stewards of Vocations – To make the best use of our God given talents
  • Stewards of the Church – The giving of our time, talent and treasure to our parish

To be a true believer in Jesus Christ and his preaching you must be a steward. The Stewardship Committee as a result becomes another expression of evangelization, a way of taking Christ’s message out from our Sunday liturgy into the whole of our life.

In our parish, stewardship is expressed many ways:

  • 5% of our Sunday and holiday collections are dispersed – 2.5% goes to St. Mark’s, our sister parish, and 2.5% to other selected charities.
  • PADS, a weekly ministry to the homeless.
  • Many other ministries, staffed by parishioners who volunteer their time, talent and treasure to serve the needs of out parish, our community and the world as a whole.

Our expressions of prayer, sacrifice and mercy are an important component of stewardship. Following are some prayer guides written by the Stewardship Committee.
